Looking to get into a street bike soon and have these two as offers. I have been riding for 10 years but recently started liking street bikes. My question is which a better bike to commute in (10 miles a day) and what would service be like for each
06 Kawasaki has 7k miles
04 Ducati has 10k miles

Commuting. Both suck but since its only 10 miles either would be ok. Id.Go with zx10r as the ergos are more friendly.

The 10r is all around the Bette bike by a long shot.

Commuting, the Kawi will be cheaper to maintain. Duc's require expensive and frequent services.

I'd get the Ninja performance is there, low cost maint. is there and the abuse they can withstand far exceed the Ducati, get the 10r you won't regret it!

I would go with the zx-10r just for reliability and cost when it comes to maintenance. I owned a zx-6r and it always rode great never had any issues at all

my dads friend compared ducati to BMW. buying a brand name. Know lots of people with zx10r's and they all love them

Ducati 749 is slower, more maintenance and parts are more expensive.
Zx10r is a great liter bike. Out of those two choices its a no brainer. Get the Kawi.

Is there a reason your looking at a ZX10R (liter bike) for communting? A ZX6R 636 is plenty. Each to their own.

If it were me I wouldn't be getting either for a commuter bike. Actually now that I think of it I would not even get a sport bike for commuting....probably something middle of the row like a sport tourer or something. From my (probably like 20 years of riding) experience and if I had to pick between the two for a street bike the ninja is a better choice (simply simply due to ergos and the larger motor). For a canyon burner or track bike the ducati is the hands down winner though. Maintenance is about the same on both bikes if you do the work yourself..the hard parts on the duc is more expensive though.

His commute is only 10 miles. Normally I would agree with you but that's a breeze.
