Are all rental cars allowed to be taken out of the country? I want to rent a car to take to Tijuana. My friend told me that Mexican authorities can confiscate a rental car from California.

Usually no. You'd have to check the contract, but I've never seen one that allowed it.

I've been told by most rental agencies that you cannot take it out of the country to Mexico.

a family member of mine took a rental from hertz or enterprise, one of them, to Tijuana. When he brought it back they told him he wasn't suppose to do that. he acted like he wasn't aware of that rule haha. nothing happened. I think u r suppose to get some kind of insurance if u do take it, but I say do it at your own risk.
