My radiator has some serious rust in it. My buddy gave me his old clean radiator. My car overheats in really hot days and I'm not sure if its because my radiator has rust in it or because my water pump might be going out.
I hear no squeaking that you usually hear when the water pump is going out, byt I've flushed it twice and it still has rust in it.
What is the best way to flush my radiator to get rid of all of the rust?

had same issue with my s10, swapped out water pump first n it still over heated. i started with it because it was the cheaper part of the 2 but it ultimately came down to too much rust in the radiator. hope this helps
but it could be t-stat getting stuck from rust build up

Is your fan clutch working? Also good idea to replace thermostat.

I don't know about you, but my 67 has the original radiator in it ( FoMoCo ) You sure its the radiator? Does it have just water in it or 50 50?

Putting tap water in the rad can cause the rusty water.i had the same issue.new water pump new radiator new t stat new hoses and the rust still came back.flushed it the added distiller water with anti freeze never seen rust again.give it a try it's worth a shot.

I'm going to do all the above minus replacing the pump and see what happens!

What is the best way to flush my radiator? I know that there is water in the block (rusty water) and I'm not sure the safest way to get the rusty water out.
Any help?

Best way to flush it is to take it to a radiator shop and have it rodded.

You can put one of these clear filters one the upper hose after you do your flush to keep an eye on the rust and clean it out as needed.

I just used the prestone radiator flush and followed directions.talked to a local radiator shop owner that's what he told me to do.

A shop that builds radiators told me to put Tide detergent in and it would clean out the rust, they said it worked for them back in the 60s &70s, but I never tried it.

Best way is to remove upper radiator hose from radiator and start the car till it's at operating temperature then all the water will flush out u just need to keep adding fresh water so ur car doesn't overheat during this process and continue til all the water coming out is clear.
