I just recently opened a credit union account and was wondering if I should keep my other bank accounts open. Is there any reason to keep a big bank around? I hear a lot of good things about credit unions and would like to close my other accounts.

I've heard nothing but bad shit about big banks. I have been with a credit union since day one and NEVER any problems. Go for it.

I think I may do the same. The only thing is big banks have atm everywhere.

From what I've seen credit unions use a co-op system which includes ATMs at 7-11

I use both. I really prefer the CU, but there not always everywhere when you need them.

I bank with kaiser credit union and I can walk into any 7/11 with an atm and use it for free..... Along with any other credit union for free.
Drop that big bank.

CU for years. as many have mentioned, you can hit up 7-11s and other CU that are part of the CU network.
penfed.org is a pretty damn good CU that offers probably the lowest interest rates on loans.

I would keep the existing bank open with some money in it. It comes in hand to show that you have had a bank account for x amount of years when trying to get a loan approved.
