How much do Tremec T-56 setups go for? I am thinking about buying a setup for my '92 mustang?

If you're going to go this route. I highly suggest a Viper Spec T56 over the Cobra version.
The Cobra version is no better than a standard T5
It also depends on what you're going to do.

Where did you hear that? Even the cobra version can handle a lot more power/torque then a t5. The only real weak point is the input shaft. If they were no better then a t5 they wouldn't be 4x as much money, and they wouldn't put them in a car that makes roughly 400hp from the factory.

The '03-'04 Cobra transmissions are pretty stout, I've seen them handle 800RW without any issues whatsoever.

Wait what?? The cobra T56 is a very good tranny. And will handle a 400hp fox with ease. Now if your making some big power by all means get the viper spec

Yes the viper is stronger and has a taller final drive over the cobra t56. yes a t5 is lighter than a t56 but to say a cobra t56 is no better than a t5 is an ignorant statement.

I've explained this many times and no one understands... The key words I put are this:
"It also depends on what you're going to do..."
Viper spec gives you: * 26 spline input shaft vs. the ford 10 spline the stock Cobra T56 is prone to snapping at the input shaft when you start beating on them. * Can handle 550ft-lb torque. * You have a double over drive 5th - .84/.74 6th - .56/.50 * Cobra spec is 5th-.80 6th-.63 * The T5 5th gear is .675 (depends on the year)
When I bought my conversion (before the Magnum version was released) I went with the cobra spec, not knowing that the gear ratios would be a mute point. Viper spec was hard to find and if you could get them they were much higher in price. I wanted the 6th gear for highway cruising (that's what I mainly intended for my car). Not knowing that both the T5 and T56 were similar in the final gear until after the fact, all I can say is that I have a 6speed in my 91 foxbody. That's when I started to looking into the differences, around the same time started to hear how the 03-04 cobra guys were snapping 10 spline input shafts and converting to 26 spline Viper input shafts.
Bottom line is YES it's a stronger trans, vs the stock. YES the gearing is more useful (except for 1st gear LOL!) but it's no different than a T5 when swapping out to a cobra spec T56.
Keep in mind this is based what I had intended for my car. If you're racing - Track or street etc. At a minimum I would go with the 26spline input shaft. [ 2014-02-08, 08:56 AM: Message edited by: RAP66 ]

I disagree... and I will clarify. I was speaking in terms of ratios,
1991 T5 3.35/1.99/1.33/1.0/.675 2003 Cobra T56 2.66/1.78/1.30/1.0/.80/.63 Viper Spec T56 2.66/1.78/1.3/1.0/.74/.50
Again my purposes at this time - Driving / Freeway cruising. If you're going to race, then the purposes are DIFFERENT. [ 2014-02-08, 09:03 AM: Message edited by: RAP66 ]

Id say strength is a key factor for anyone looking to upgrade their trans if freeway crusing and gas mileage is a priority than you should look into a car that will better suit your purposes

.63 and .68 makes a pretty decent difference. when crusing. not sure sure why you would have to have a .50. unless your running 430s 456s 488s. you should be running fine with just .63

No apologies needed. It's cool.
My mustang is used for cruising. I have no plans on racing, but maybe the occasional trip to the drag strip. From what I have read, I should probably stay stock. I was just worried about it breaking because I do plan on doing some motor work and supercharging it.
To all who replied, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!
