Couldn't find the old thread I had, think it was lost when the site crashed. Thought I would share what happened since then!

I had taken my wife's car for an oil change and the mechanic stripped the oil plug on the pan. They wouldn't man up to their mistake and tried to pressure my wife into paying for a replacement pan and labor. I went back and forth with them on the phone and they eventually did a temporary fix to the plug to get us out of there.

Well I had full service records on this car showing they did every oil change since we purchased it. I ended up writing a letter to BBB with my supporting documentation. During the next few months the dealership did not respond to the complaint. I think the BBB was about to give them a negative rating and them 2 weeks ago we get a call from the service director saying that they will replace the pan free of charge. We got the pan replaced last Saturday. I'm very happy I was able to get some resolution and get the car fixed correctly at no cost.

That's great news man. They should at least give you something else for the damn hassle you had to go through.

Do you think oil pans/threads are expected to last a life time as in they "cannot" simply fail?

This is an important thread because it happened to a relative of mine too.
If your NOT going to do your own oil changes, do what the op did and take it to the same place so they can't say the "other guy" did it at some other shop.
This really shouldn't happen, all you have to do is wipe the drain plug with a towel every time and be careful, really.

Or you can do the work yourself and only be able to blame yourself. But if you aren't gonna work on your own car then this is a great tip on getting work done. [patriot]

don't mean to thread jack but the BBB is the best way to go sometimes. I had Att uverse internet and when I ordered their internet they sent my equipment to the wrong address and when it finally came they sent me the wrong equipment that wasn't compatible with my location. When they finally sent me the correct router they sent the technician to the wrong house once again. It took about 3 weeks to get online. After a year I should've learned my lesson and looked somewhere else. I renewed my contract because they had a pretty good deal I should've passed up. I told them I had the same equipment from my previous contract so they don't need to send me another router. The customer service rep assured me that they wouldn't send me anything but sure enough two weeks later I receive another router in the mail. I tried calling to send it back but they said they already charged me for it and if I didn't pay they would send me to collections. I tried speaking to managers and supervisors but they were the worst people imaginable ( bunch of ghetto ass people.) I got sick of it called the BBB and told them everything and showed them all the documentations and two days later ATT calls me and tells me they will drop all the charges and will credit my account with $150 which basically paid off the rest of my contract. Sometimes you need the BBB in order to get stuff done glad I did that and I will never go back to ATT internet. F that!

I wrk for a dealership, I can tell you the threads on the drain plug are designed to strip before the pan. Now I haven't ran into too many oil pan threads that were stripped but I do come across a lot if stripped drain plugs.

Kinda the same thing with the lug nuts that have the chrome caps on them, over time they swell up, round off or come off, normally in that situation I don't do the tire rotation and request new lug nuts, customers assume nothing on a car is supposed to fail wen infact I think they are designed to fail lmao!!! Apparently when someone screws you, your stance is to just bend over. [Razz] All the bitching/name calling you do on here really makes you seem like a jackass. You must have wonderful personal life!

Thanks for everyone else's feedback. I hope my experience and resolution helps if one of you are ever in a similar situation.

I asked a question, apparently your boyfriend is slacking of lately. Answer the question dip shit. Do you think those threads CANNOT fail?

They didn't do the job because they know they were "at fault" they did it because it's easier than dealing with you. You feel like you're now a winner, but the threads/pans can fail over time without a dip shit playing Hee Man on them.
