I have a 2000 silverado and the heater doesn't work because the core is clogged and im too lazy to do it myself...so my question is what is a good price to pay and can anyone here (other than fasthack)do it? Oh i already tried unclogging it [ December 15, 2012, 12:15 AM: Message edited by: 94 fobra ]

If you already have the heater core think 250 is a good prize that's what I paid for my f150 cause they had to basically remove the whole dash

I just did one on my dads 2000 gmc sierra. Took about 5 1/2 hours not knowing what we were doing with youtube as our guide lol.
Its a lot of work if you don't know what your doing.
After doing it once I could do it again easily no problem. But I don't like working on other peoples cars.
Also have to have your A/C recharged after cause you have to take it out.
Everywhere my dad talked to wanted like $750 - $1000 to do the work. [ December 15, 2012, 02:46 AM: Message edited by: ItzStock ]

$800 to a grand is the general rate from a reputable shop. I would suggest bypassing the heater core and having the cooling system flushed prior to replacement. Shit in the cooling system is often the reason they fail/clog

Lol I would not let FATHACK touch any of my vehicles, even if he was paying me!! That POS has no clue what he is doing! But he has a good reference, call and ask N8 how good he is!

* Please keep your drama off this site. This is supposed to be a resource and helpful site not a talk show..
Regardless
If you're looking for a temporary fix to get you through winter I recommend picking up a bottle of CLR.

I did this once to an Audi they are notorious for clogged heater cores.
Steps I took to cleaning out a heater core.
* unhook heater core lines. * buy bulk hose that fits your heater core inlet and outlet from you local auto store. * pour CLR down inlet house and let it soak for an hour. * grab water hose and put it on the inlet side and turn on water to blast out heater core. *repeat process depending on how clogged it is. I had to do it 4-5 times before it cleared. After the initial hour i waited 15-20 mins before flushing each use after. * once its flowing nicely take the inlet line and blow through it to get all the hose water out. * rehook up your heater core to your old heater lines and top off radiator.
Sometimes spending 800-1000 on a heater core job has to wait.
hope this helps
