What's your opinions on them?
I like diesels best, but finding a clean one thats not too old for under 19k is a chore. Most of them I looked at are beat up work truck, or Lariats that are tore up from construction etc.

Ill be towing a travel trailer weighing in at about 4500 lbs.
Nothing too crazy, but I dont want whatever I tow it with to struggle because I hate towing and not having enough power to drive speed limits

I'm leaning toward a 2007 + tundra right now.

I had a gmc Sierra 1/2 ton and towed a fbody on a 18ft car hauler and it did ok, but uphills was awful.

What's the best priced towing rig that would accomplish this goal?

Never really towed anything heavy with a gas vehicle. Diesels are great for towing - I hauled two Jeeps from here to Moab. I'm estimating that's at least over 10k with the trailer thrown in. I got roughly 11-12 mpg the whole trip. I think you need to ask yourself how long you will keep the truck for, if it is a daily driver, and if you intend on towing anything heavier. A gas truck will tow under 5k just fine, and it'll probably struggle a bit on the hills. Diesels have awesome power, but you have to remember the maintenance thrown in of a 3/4 or 1 ton truck. You'll be buying oil by the gallon, not by quarts for oil changes. I was advised to always stay on top of filter changes. Steering, axle parts, drivetrain, etc. are likely more expensive than a 1/2 ton. It all depends on whether or not you think it is worth it.

My truck tows like a dream but sometimes I do think it is a little overkill.

chevy gas motors are great for towing lighter vehicles/trailers like that. however, diesel cummins will tow that with ease. theyre just more expensive.

I towed my AI race car and all the gear, spare wheels and tires all over California for the past 4 years with a 5.3 Tahoe. I'd estimate the total load around 5500lbs. I could cruise as fast as I wanted on the flats, any kind of incline required a shift out of OD. Real hills sucked of course but I could still go 50mph without spinning crazy RPM. I put a set of E rated tires on it and it really helped control the load. It's no diesel but it does a pretty good job at towing and my wife daily drives it.

DIESEL My Dads, 1986 Ford F250, 6.9 Turbo has 570,000 miles on it. He put a used low mile motor from a 84 at about 450k. Not because the old one was broke, but just because he figured it was about time. Tows the gooseneck trailers all day up hills. GET A DIESEL!
