So a couple of weeks ago Christian89 posted up his car had a 4k rpm sputter and the car felt slow and a whole bunch of other shit. He calls me tells me to come out he needs help with it. I go out there for 4 hours working on his car. I modified his egr so it work because he had it all set up but his gt40 phenolic spacer had no egr hole so I drilled one for him and modified the gaskets accordingly reinstalled the intake. We took it out for a test drive and it seemed to have gone away but the car was still sluggish. We get gas. I drive it and it's completely gone. So we go back to his house and it start to act up again. I go all through his ignition testing for dead cylinder. Turn out #3 wasn't doing shit for him and #4 wasn't really doing much either. I pull those two spark plugs they look fine but he's got oil on the threads. No worries I wipe it off after showing him both plugs throw them back in after I inspect for cracks. I then look at his plug wires he had some heat bubbles but no straight through holes or anything. I then said lets replace the tps so he grabs me a good one he had and I throw it on and the sputter is still there. I throw on the old one reposition it so that it's idling right. I tell him we can bump the timing see if the laziness goes away an I do that and he test drives tells me it takes off like a bat of hell but the sputter comes back. So I leave for the day after we discuss I will come back the next day with a solution. I ask for 20 bucks for gas because I thought I would be coming back the next day so I think I can get all my money when the job is done. On the way home I decide it's his distributor and I tell him that. The next day I text and called him 2 times to figure if he needs me to come out. So he ducks and dives me And to this day I haven't heard from him or nothing. I want my payment because this is my job not a game. I don't want to be the guy to come and take collateral or nothing but I think 4 hours worth of work and solution deserves a payment!!! What should I do cafords

Dave you sir are a nice guy. If i don't know them, or haven't done work for them before it's 100% up front. [patriot] As for the op. Take a ride to his house or job site. Other wise chalk it up to, he ain't going to pay you.

Yes chalk it up. If he don't pay you then what? Kick his ass? Get thrown in jail? I'm sure that will help the rent. You can take him to small claims court. But i'm sure you will waste more money than what he owes you in missed time at work.

what was the agreement? sign any work orders? sounds like you are charging for a diagnostic, did you agree on a flat rate or hourly pay? mechanics dont get paid if the jobs not done.
no trying to take any sides, i dont know either party, just sounds like some info is missing. i personally would have at least paid you for your time and gas if there would have been an agreed amount prior

I had to learn the hard way myself. A ex-friends dad got me. But it was for a little more than 4 hours of work.

Ss396 it's just a reciept dude you don't need a bar number for that. It's a piece of documentation to show I did something for you and that you payed. If you need a license to give one out you need a license to buy a reciept book. And since they are readily available at staples then guess what?

Just kill him, then sell his organs. Sounds like that will be about the only option you have, since chalking it up is not an option for you either.

But in all seriousness, if it were me, and I ducked you for at least a week, I don't plan on cashing you out.

You gotta be careful with side work that's why I don't offer my services to people I don't know or have a referral from someone I do know, as far as giving receipts if you are making receipts your basically proving your making an income without paying taxes on it . Also if someone gets upset with you and turns you in shows your receipt the county or EPA could ask for proof of how your disposing of your hazardous waste and fine you big time . Just be cautious of people always get paid 100% parts and depending on the customer get paid in advance on the labor . My advice lesson learned move on don't know what your charging per hour but 4 hours lost is better than jail time or having to explain to an officer what's happening
