I was thinking about swapping out my Mustangs power steering to a manual. It's for my 1991 5.0 If anyone here did a swap for theirs please tell me how is it like. Did the car gain some horse power?

If you drive your car all the time and your pretty much fully weighted don't do it only thing you'll benefit from is an arm workout

Yes you will pick up some HP because it's one less thing having to be spun by the motor. As far as manual steering goes..... Everyone has their opinion. I personally am not a real big guy and it has never really be a big deal to me. You really can't palm it when your going in and out of parking spots, but average speed turns are t a problem at all. On the plus side it's one less part you have to think about leaking.

This is why I am doing mine. Currently the power rack is leaking like a mo-fo.
I don't daily drive mine so I don't think it will be that big of a deal.

I had a flaming river manual rack for awhile and I liked it and hated it for different reasons.
I liked the feel while at speed, I liked that I never had any p/s pump whine, and it had some extra power to the wheels.
I didn't like how much of a PITA parallel parking was with it.
I didn't like how much you have to turn the wheel to make the wheels turn, direction changed require 1.5-2x more steering wheel movement than the p/s setup, maybe 3x more? I felt like I was in an old movie car chase scene whenever I went to the track and had to get through a chicane or S section, I was throwing the wheel around and around from one side to the other, where in my `97 it was just a flick right, flick left, no drama and never have to cross my arms over.
to each there own, I wouldn't do it unless it was a track only drag car.
