Did you fill out two release of liabilities and keep one for yourself? Or a bill of sale? I guess if it comes down to it you could always get it out of impound and file for a lost pink then sell it again.

I've heard of puerile re submitting a partial filled out bill of sale (all of the info you can remember). If it comes down to it you might be able to use your bank statement as proof of the sale if you deposited the money into an account. Ive never delt with with a tow yard but if th hey are saying that its your vehicle I think you can just surrender it to them

I hope you made a copy of the release. Same thing happened to me before. Dmv lost the paper work. The person that you sold it to never put it in their name and you are the last registered owner so the tow company is going to try to stick you with the bill. I made a few calls to dmv and basically filled out the release again with all the info I could remember. It was a headache but eventually got the tow company off my back. Now when I sell a car I always make a copy of the release of liability I learned my lesson.

Yeah you have to be careful about people like that when you sell something. Always have copies of the release of liability and a bill of sale for yourself.

That would suck to fork over that amount of money and have know idea if the car is in decent condition. Goodluck on it, hopefully you don't have to pay anything.

They can threaten to sue you all they want but can't do absolutely nothing to you... had the same situation towing kept mailing me letters and a collection company finally called. I told them to send me a copy of the contract that showed me asking for their services or agreeing to pay or any legal document with my signature and date. I threatened suing the collection company and towing company under the fair credit reporting act. Never heard back from them nor did they report anything to my credit depot. I did get a lien sale notification before they sold the car.

the way tow companys are set up and run its a WIN WIN situation for them no matter what.IF a car gets impounded for 30 days thay are up 1k if you pick it up if you say fuck it keep it. it gets lien sold thay now own it thay can resell it for more or scrap it

If it is a TOW yard/Autowreckers thay can part it out and make money there. long story short only person getting fucked is you 99% of tow yards will only accept a release of liability if it is stamped by the dmv before the tow date
