My dad just picked up a 98 GMC Savana conversion van and we're having issues with the radio. The radio headunit is stock and turns on/off fine, but it seems that when the driver side window is rolled up there is no sound. When I roll it down all the way, the sound comes back on. It seems that once the window is rolled back up to a certain pint (a bit more than half way), the sound will go away completely.
Is there a main wire running from the driver side door that controls the sound for all of the interior speakers? Possible short somewhere? It doesnt happen when the passenger side window rolls up or down. Any ideas

If at any point they had to go into the door panel such as a window motor or replace the speaker they could have positioned the speaker wire to somehow catch up on the window track causing a short in the internal amp that's built into the deck. The only way to know would be to remove the panel and check the speaker wire.

The speaker could be grounding out in that door causing the head unit to go into protect. Disconnect that speaker and see if if it continues to do it. While in the door, make sure you check the wire for and physical damage, especially in or around the door boot.

Thanks for the tips guys! MikeD, I ended up disconnecting the speaker from the door and everything worked perfectly after that. I didn't need to pull the entire door panel off since the speaker is externally mounted, so im still not sure if it's just the speaker that has the issue or if it's a wire inside the door panel. Could the actual speaker itself be causing this?

Its gotta have something to do with the wiring. Is it a stock speaker? The only way it would be the speaker is if the terminal came apart and is making contact with eachother.

Well if the speaker is blown or damaged internally, is can cause itself to ground out and shut the deck down. Usually you can tell by a small pop when the radio is turned on. If you hear that pop in the speaker, thats most likey the culprit.
