Anyone on here had Emergency surgery, and your insurance paid more than half of the bill but didn't pay it all completely?
Did you pay the remainder or were you able to get your insurance to pay the rest off?

My son had a scheduled emergency surgery and the insurance paid their share no questions asked.

I've heard of people having to fight the insurance company to get them to pay their contractual share, but luckily I haven't had to yet.

What do you mean their share? Did they pay for the full bill?

i got some really stupid bills from san jose med center from an accident in 2004

its hard to go over them...cuz you get milled from hospital, anesthesiologist, docs, etc and a lot overlaps so get paid multiple times for the same thing

anyways.....go over everything...keep questioning the hospital and the insurance company too

basically just refuse to pay, im not sure what your insurance is SUPPOSED to cover...but typically emergency treatment is 100%

so make them fix it, or file a BK if you really had to...not sure how much your talking

I am going to call the hospital and see if they will try and get the rest out of my insurance. I don't want to pay that much money especially since i am looking to buy a house right now.

i am pretty sure this hasn't been paid for yet, its just for my stay in the hospital.

Check your coverages. Not all insurance pay 100%. There are limits on each type of coverage.

They paided 75% of the bill. I'll probably have to pay it.

I have the premium benefits so i thought they would pay it all off.

Gotta read your what your benefits pay for and what your yearly deductible is. My boy's surgery was like $60k and we ended up paying something like $3k out of pocket, the insurance paid for everything else.

Here's a good site that helps explain how deductibles and out of pocket limits work.

last year my wife went to the ER for stomach pain, had a lot of tests done, ended up after insurance I owed the hospital almost $7k. This was for my out of pocket deductible for my insurance.

We negotiated a $130/mo payment to pay it off, hospitals cannot charge interest so it really does not matter.

for my collar bone surgery 6 weeks ago luckily my company switched to better insurance this year, so my out of pocket max was $5k for the year. So I owe $5k but again, I negotiated a $100/mo payment plan so who cares...

Damn this thread makes me grateful our union negotiated 100% insurance coverage for my family. My wife had our baby at walnut creek kaiser and we didn't pay 1 penny.

If you have a insurance policy they should have sent you a booklet with everything you are covered for and what out of pocket expenses you will have for different procedures.

Most insurances have a maximum out of pocket amount per year per individual. Make sure you look into that. I know for my insurance it is $2500 a year, once you pay that amount the insurance covers the rest regardless of the percentages stated on the coverage per visit.

Hospital is appealing for me but i set up a payment plan anyway.
My insurance is saying since it was an inpatient emergency they won't cover the rest, even though i was admitted to the ER and then put in the hospital for surgery..
