I actually know about this style of car I worked for a guy in the late 70's/early 80's that made something similar. http://www.gatsbycars.com/cabriolet.html while they mainly built this style of car using MG's, they did make a couple using brand new Mustang convertibles (83,84 from memory) The MG's were placed on an LTD chassis and the extended fenders added The Mustangs had the front clip removed and were cut right in front of the strut towers and a large piece of tubing was inserted into the frame sections and rewelded increasing the wheel base several feet and then the fiberglass fenders were added along with a steel hood section. ahhhh memories ........
