Hmmm sounds like you have done it before... need a side job? Lol
Basically I want to put in a 220 compressor in the garage using the existing 220 that's already there, the plugs are different.I need two 220 outlets as my wife bought a new electric dryer. So what can I do, my buddy who was suppose to do it left town and wont return till end of month...

i made a 220 extension chord, and run it to my dryer plug in the garage. The chord is about 20 ft so i can put the compressor out side and not have to hear it. The only down fall is dryer and compressor cant be pluged in at the same time.

I read this elsewhere and im confused. The compressor I have has 4 wires, green/red/black/white. So how do I wire it? 4 prong female on one end and 3 prong male on the other?

you will need to run seperate circuits if you plan on running both devices at once, and you don't need a 50 amp, a 30 amp should do the trick, depending on how many amps your compressor pulls, to do this right i'd just run two 30 amp circuits, or essentially add one more seperate circuit, since your dreyer sounds like it's already wired up.

if this sounds beyond your capabilities do not hesitate to call an electrician, have seen a good friend burn down his house because he didn't want to listen to his friends in the trades.

Its obviously beyond my knowledge,I threw the question out in case it was something not too complicated that I would feel comfortable doing. I also was wondering if there was an electrician in our community that wouldn't mind a small side job. Guess I will have too wait it out.

First of allwhat phase compressor do you have? Single or 3 phase? I'm guessing a single phase (2 hot leads) depending on your compressors amperage draw the determines what guage wire and size breaker. Once you figure that out this is what you need:
Here's amperage
20 amp: two pole 20 amp breaker depends on brand panel 12-3 SOS cord and male and female 240v 20 amp receptacle and plug
Same contents above for 30amp except now you need 10-3 SOS cord etc
40amp 8-3 SOS cable etc
50amp 6-3 SOS cable etc
This is for making a cord to plug into a twist lock receptacle located near your panel/sub panel easiest way possible
