Too bad the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975 protects consumers from having their warranty voided with the addition of aftermarket parts. Unless the company can show the part CAUSED the problem, Ford can pound sand.

I don't see a problem with the TSB. I see a problem with inept tunes and tuners.

Correct in some ways...i've got a brand new 2012 5.0 here in the shop with 6k on the odo, and it had a cold air intake and tune done by a reputable shop.....only to now have #8 cylinder go by by.
Doesnt even have plates yet.
Ford told him no warranty....and tuner said not his issue.

is this something new? I think it has always been that if you modify your car, your warranty expires.

That makes sense to me since they modified the computer settings. I would have taken it to Ford with the factory tune in place and would have even taken the cold air kit off.

They can tell whether or not a tune was installed on the car.

There a part of the pcm that tuners can touch that gets tripped when tuners fuck with the pcm

Gotta pay to play. Shouldn't fuck with a car with warranty if you scared it might fuck up especially after reading what people are going thru with the number 8 cylinder

this only applies to replacement parts such as direct replace stuff like air filter, oil filter, oxygen sensors etc... not modifications like bigger throttle bodies, cams stuff like that

If you can't afford to fix your car out of pocket you shouldn't be modding it, plain and simple! I don't blame Ford for not warranting repairs done to modified cars, if it was left stock most likely the car wouldn't have failed.

This is exactly why I'm leaning towards the Ford Racing Pro Cal and matching CAI. It fully maintains the factory warranty.

Keep this in mind; when developing the tune profiles for the new engine (both stock and the upgrade) ford had the following information on hand.

1) EGT for each cylinder
2) AFR for each cylinder
3) Multiple fuel grades and qualities (summer/winter blend etc..)
4)Controlled maximum load per tps voltage idle to redline
5)Controlled environment perameters. 130* to -25* F

and most importantly

6)Multiple engines to test and tear down to analyze.
