I might be buying a lightning tomorrow. I test drove the truck today and it runs good. I don't see no leaks under the truck. Is ther anything else to look for. The truck is bone stock with just bassani catback and 109k miles.

do it, 01-04 are the years they changed the plug threads. The trucks are tough and you never get over the instant power. I have an 02 that's stock and besides the horrible gas mileage its my go to DD that does a great job doing all sorts of tasks. Tires are expensive and hard to find in stock typically.

Harley trucks get owned in the speed dept and in the bed size. They are the explorer sport track version pretty much. Lightnings are just cooler better truck. If you want to haul people instead of ass get a Harley

How are they owned in speed and bed size? lol the lightning weighs less sure, but the harley takes the same mods just as easily and the longer wheelbase launches easier.
The stepside bed is hardly bigger, with the factory flipdown bed extended on my truck I can fit a 4x8 sheet of plywhood inside the bed, no way in hell can the stepside lightning do that ![[Wink]](wink.gif)
don't forget about the interior...base model f150 with different seat covers and white gauge panel in a lightning, vs unique black 2 tone heated leather seats with 4 buckets in the harley

either way, they're both the most badass street trucks on the road, and respond so well to mods!

Just like the Termis you should do a compression test,01/02 are known for poping spark plugs,03/04 have more threads on the head and the problem was fixed,if you drive it everyday check the plugs about once a month.

Actually I recently owned a 01 lightning..the spark plug threads were changed till 02..my plugs shot out on more than 1 occasion..if any negatives on this truck, that would it..other than that, truck was fun and ran like a champ..good.luck with the purchase

well your right about both trucks being badass, the only 2 trucks that could potentially ruin your day a 91 GMC Syclone and a srt-10 ram don't really come close in my book. The Syclone has 0 towing capabilities but will out launch a lighting with its awd and the srt-10 doesn't tow unless its the quadcab and they still get walked on by most Gen 2s. The plug thread problem and cooling problems are on the 99-00 s when they were rated 360hp vs 380 HP I thought.

Oh was 02 the change then? That red one you had was the shit. The first time I drove one of these trucks got me hooked, enjoy the new truck and hit up lightningrodder.com if your going to upgrade or want to find stock headlights with the little svt on the bulb. I had to buy some and picked them up for 100 bucks.

Make sure you check to see if the IC pump is working. I found out my shit didn't work when I went to dyno tune it my iat2 where insane and check the plugs to make sure there tight, bad ass truck for sure I have no complaints about my 04, but if you do get it first mod you should do is a "punisher valve body street" it will spin the 2nd gear shift on wot and bark 3rd, the stock valve body is slow as hell on the shifts and soft to.

i like the compact/sportier look of the lightning over the HD...and damn, makes me think about trading my TBSS for one of those...silver/black lightning looks ill, but i aint no raider fan lol

the 03 and on had the additional threads. The 01/02 still had the thread problem. Id pass on anything with 100k miles with a supercharger. Have you done a compression test? go to www.f150online.com they have the largest lightning forum.
