Donnor Ski Ranch, its small, and cheap. Good bunny slope for beginners. See if she likes it before spending the big bucks.

My brother is Marketing Supervisor at Sugar Bowl, so I'm a bit biased .... but
1) They're up the i-80, which to me beats messing around on the two-lane i-50
2) It's the closest resort (Boreal doesn't count...) to Sacramento/Yay Area
3) They've got phenomenal terrain for the size of the mountain, and more if you know where to look...
Donner Ski Ranch is right across the Old 40 and, for the money, seems decent for someone deciding whether or not spending a day on the snow is their idea of a good time.
