That was a pretty popular thing to do back in the 50's when big displacement small blocks didn't exist.
Probably the most famous of the coupled V8's is Tommy Ivo's 4 engined Buick Nailhead powered drag car.

Yep, AWD. I'll see if I can find some vids of it going down the track, but it would smoke all four tires half the length of the track.
