Quick question for you all. Got my ac looked at in my 03 ranger. They did the service and recharge. Didn't help. Next they say there was a bad relay. Still doesn't work. Am I right to get my money back and take it some where else? What are my options?

I think they should have known if the freon was low or not before they did the service. Its simple to put the gauge on it and see if the pressure is within range but all they have to say is it was low and they had to fill it to check the system. I'd argue with them a bit but I doubt you can really do anything to get your money back. What's the name of the shop? [ June 17, 2011, 06:53 PM: Message edited by: asskickn88 ]

Right. They said it was low so I authorized that. After they did that it still was not blowing cold. They said its a bad relay so I said change it out. Still doesn't work. Charged me for the relay and time. I hate not having tools to do this my self

One, you need to make sure the clutch spins freely with engine off. Grab the inside and see if it spins to make sure it's on frozen.
Two, that shops a bunch of dipshits. If they had an AC Machine, they would be able to monitor pressures.
Things to replace,
Orifice Tube, Receiver Dryer. This is all assuming the Compressor itself isn't toast.
Also, when they have it on the machine. Take a look at the HIGH SIDE pressures, rev the engine up to 3k, see how high they go before it drops. A Clogged receiver dryer, the pressures will be insane. [ June 18, 2011, 01:52 AM: Message edited by: LS1 ]

I'm in the business they are just worried about to main things onebeing that there sales would get fucked etc etc.. The second thing it there freon.. So go there and tell hem to vacum the freon back out of your system to and give you a refund:

If they are charging you and not fixing the issue then you are not obligated to pay for the repairs. Really.. how long could it possibly take to change a relay? Bet they only put their hand on the relay to see if it clicked over and assumed it was that when they felt/heard nothing. I wouldn't be payin that's for sure.
