I was looking through all the pics from Knott's and came across this shot of my '87 coupe. I was stunned to see it and I'm curious who owns it now? Is it anyone on this board? [ April 25, 2009, 02:01 AM: Message edited by: iceman302 ]

I think it still belongs to a californiafords member but I don't think that's the same car. I saw the car a few months back at Top Notches shop. I remember the engine bay being completely smoothed out and everything polished. I could be wrong though.

This is the car that most people know as "PurpleNotch"...
I still have the magazine with the feature on the car. I think Shaun still lurks around here. He built most of the car and it had an amazing system in it before he sold it.
I bought the car from the guy that he sold it to. The car had stock suspension and brakes on it when I picked it up but the engine was as it is now. It also had '96 Cobra wheels on it. The car would head for the nearest ditch in the first three gears.
The car was a little unkind to me. The passenger side head gasket blew after only having it three days. I replaced the gasket and the problem was traced to a faulty injector harness.
I spent a ton of money doing a full Cobra disc brake upgrade all the way around and full Maximum Motorsports suspension - torque arm, adj. LCA's, panhard bar, etc. I also put a set of Bullitt wheels on the car.
Unfortunately, the car continued its streak of ungratefulness, despite all the new toys I bought her. The damage had already been done and not long after the #3 piston let go. That was enough for me. I sold the car with the toasted engine to a guy in the Bay area.
The car always looked exceptional and it only needed a few more things to really be complete mechanically. It really looks phenomenal now. My compliments to the current owner. I hope they see this and chime in.

Nope, very close, but StreakMatt's cousin "purple coupe", has all the trim shaved, & custom bumpers on his car....

It is definitely my old car. The cowl area was damaged before I bought it. The cowl was repaired but painted flat black. Also, the hot rod style coolant overflow tank is a dead giveaway. That was my doing. There are several other things but I'm 100% positive that's my old car.
Close but no cigar, John!

It depends on the lighting. The car really looked blue in bright sunlight but purple in lower light. It is definitely my old car. The flat black cowl and the overflow tank, plus everything else under the hood, is spot on. No question.

Again irrelevant, but what size rims and tires were those? Did u just do a straight up sn95 conversion, no other mods to fit fr500's?

I sold the car with Bullitt's on there but he bolted the FR500's right on. I used Fox length rear axles and North Race Cars brackets to bolt up the Cobra calipers. Run a search for them and their site will list everything you need.

Hey cafords to clear all those things up ..Yes it was my car and I had that custom paint color on that car back in 03. After my car hit the streets allot of cars came up with the same color.. I started seeing it on notches, hatchbacks, even convertibles..lol It was in mustang 5.0 and thank you for all the compliments. Since I have sold it along the way dave aka iceman302 bought it and did some great suspension work and brake work. The current owner is a guy in the east bay his name is Alex. He has had the entire engine redone, and did an 03 cobra interior, new wheels, and I sold him the stereo system that was previously in there ..not sure if it is installed. He called me before he went to knotts and said the car is for sale and to put the word out. So that should clear it up seems he has the car back together finally after he had for about 2 years I believe. It looks great and congrats to him for bringing her back to life! Great work Alex. Cafords is the best place for norcal mustang talk keep up the great forums guys!

I talked to the guy who owns it now at the Knott's show and he said he put a 331 back in it. It had 03 Cobra front and rear seats in it too.
