its not really ricey... definitely not very "functional" but they do that to get a really aggressive fitment. youd be amazed how sick this kinda stuff actaully looks on some cars.

That can sometimes look pretty sick depending on the fitment. My buddy is running some 235s on an 11.5 inch wheel on his 240sx.. the car is completely slammed and the tire misses the 1/4 panel by literally by a couple centimeters.. you'd be lucky to fit 2 quarters in between the gap lol

Whats the purpose of it? Besides just looks. Does it handle better? Launch better? Or when you hit a curb, you just chip your rim and save your tire? Whats the purpose? I don't get it.

They put them on to dump the car as far as it can go with some of the widest wheels. It helps tuck the tire back behind the fender/quarter panel without having rubbing issues. Its mostly a fad

I remember do that back in the 80s with the Mini Truck stuff, use to put 195/50/15 tires on a 9-10" wide rim. I hated mounting those tires that way, took me forever to do. [ May 17, 2011, 02:32 AM: Message edited by: racsirx ]

That's been around for a wile like Lee says in the 80s mini trucks and in the 70s 60s even earlier, stretching small tires on wide rims is for the looks eventually the cops will find something wrong with it and have a reason to pull you ever. Most styles fade away and come back with new generations. Freakin history huh

who cares about safety as long as your tires look cool..lol
I can see why someone would do this back in the days, lack of aftermarket tire companies/prices/etc. Don't low profile tires nowadays? is this really necessary or are there really some broke ass people that cant afford a set of tires.
I was working in Hayward and seen the most ridiculous integra I have ever seen.It had its wheels so cambered out a portion of the tires where in the air. I was looking at it in amazement and the driver out of the blue tells me "look cool huh" I looked at him and told him "fuck no it looks like shit" all he could say is "you dont know whats up with VIP" I walked away laughing
