When you buy a new car and you intend to insure it with your current insurer, there is usually a grace period.

Meaning: Your insurance company will automatically cover the vehicle for a certain amount of days, whether it be 15, or 30. I believe AAA is 30 but I might be mistaken.

So, techincally, you had insurance at the time you were pulled over AND you should be able to get a declarations page which will back date coverage to the time you bought the vehicle.

When you bring this to court and explain that you just bought the car, the judge usually dismisses this. I've had this happen to me, friends, and family members before.

The driving while on a cell phone is NOT a moving violation. But I might have been misinformed on that. However, I'm 99% sure.

If the car has current insurance then it shows on the DMV record of the car unless it was put on less than a week before. If he asked you for proof of insurance its because when he ran the plate it didn't come back as insured. Are you sure its covered? If not then you need to contact your insurance company and say you purchased the car a week before the date you got pulled over and have them add it to your policy to avoid the huge fine. I did it for a friend of mine last year just to keep him from getting in big trouble so it works.

Three 540 Bimmers and a 5.0 Explorer.... got a Ford back in the stable!

It's time for the country to do what Obama's own father did.
Abandon him.

Sorry, I meant that it's not a moving violation in the sense that it doesn't add any points on your record.

However, for each subsequent ticket, the fine increases.
