Hey whats up everyone!
I found a Mustang that I might buy and there is a problem with the throw out bearing. He installed a new fordracing clutch and said the mechanic tighten the bearing to much, so it went out. The owner told me that it only cost $15 for the part but im scared how much it would cost to install the new throw out bearing.
its on a 88 mustang.
Does anyone know the cost of a throw out bearing job?
Thanks, Calvin

if it has an adjustable clutch cable, and that was adjusted improperly causing pressure to always be on the clutch fork (too tight) it would easily wear out the TOB very fast.

Rather than telling some BS about the bearing being tightened down, how about telling us the symptoms that are leading you guys to conclude the the TO bearing is bad?
A TO bearing swap is similar to a clutch job. Driveshaft, exhaust, and trans need to come out...
Might as well replace the clutch and rear main seal while you are in there...

I just got back test driving the Mustang.
It looked clean when I went to park until I got closer... First off, I thought it was odd that the car was at the other "owners" house..which the guy I spoke to on the phone failed to me... Second, when I asked the seller on the phone if there were any accidents, I come to find out....yup, u guessed it..accident. left front got hit, which causes the driver door to rub against the fender. Thirdly, the throw out bearing or what ever it is, did not sound right when you engage it into gear. It drives and drives hard, but it did not feel right.. I based my test drive off the 1985 gt I was about to get. Plus I couldn't put it into 5th gear. I probably couldn't done it, just would've needed to force it.
either way, I gotta keep on looking. Thanks for your input guys!

Wow, what a waste of time! I hate sellers like that. Also how hard is it to install a new clutch. How do people manage to screw up some of the easiest things .... idiots
Keep looking bro, there's lots of nice stangs out there. Just have to have patience.
