My buddy has to smog his 03 Mach 1 asap. Was wondering if it will pass the sniffer? When the car will go to the smog shop, the only mods will be long tubes, high flow 2 cat h pipe, C&L 85mm maf, intake spacer, & the stock tune will be uploaded...
Not worried about visual, but just wondering if it will pass the sniffer??? [ July 17, 2009, 11:49 AM: Message edited by: EPIK ]

Once you re-load the stock tune, make sure you have at least 100 miles or so on it...or it will fail the OBD-II check.

Good point John... In my experience it can be more than 100miles though. I've had to go 200-300 miles before I could pass the OBDII check

Damn... 100 miles??? It barely gets driven that much in a month LOL.. I guess the catted midpipe will have to be installed with the stock tune & it will have to be DD'd to work next week.

Leave the tune on that way your check engine light wont come on. I left the tune on my modded 03 Cobra, the 02 sensor wasn't even plugged in and it passed with flying colors.

You still have any of those extra rear 02's that you had in the garage a while back?

DAMN!!!! Im frustrated as hell. So I installed the shorty catted H pipe on the car & upload the stock tune & all seems well... So I drive the car for a while to reset the computer & its running fine with no codes. After work, I take the car to get smogged & once I get it on the rollers I get a check engine light for a #8 cylinder misfire... So I erase the code, & drive the car about 20 miles with no code. Once I get the car back to the shop & get it back on the machine, the same code pops up?? So at this point we reset the code & swap out the coil to a different cylinder & I still get the same #8 cylinder misfire???
WTF??? Im beginning to think that my motor is hurt because the #8 cylinder is the same one that has the valve tick issue.... What could cause this & how can I get this to pass smog?? [ July 23, 2009, 10:36 PM: Message edited by: EPIK ]

You have a fouled/misfiring plug. Time for a tune-up!

They are brand new NGK TR6 plugs that I installed only 4 days ago? The misfire appeared after the plug install... [ July 25, 2009, 05:00 PM: Message edited by: EPIK ]

you might have a bad gasket on the valve cover over that spark plug hole which is letting some oil drip into that spark plug.

The misfire went away................ When I changed the plugs last week, none of them looked to have any oil on them. I know what your talking about though Blind, my old 97 Cobra had that issue with the spark plug seals leaking oil into the plug holes....
Im pretty sure my misfire is due to the valve tick, but at least for now, it went away & the car passed smog [ July 26, 2009, 12:30 AM: Message edited by: EPIK ]
