Need some sound advice.
This is not a huge deal from a monetary stand point, however , it is a huge deal from an ideals stand point.
Here is the scenario:
Buyer comes over to pick up some stock parts to include a radiator and a timing cover.
Buyer says I will pass on the radiator. Seller asks why. Buyer says it looks plugged up. Seller knows for a fact that this radiator was in a car for two weeks only, however, it did sit for 2 years so maybe that is why it looked gummed up to them. Seller knows damn well it will work great. So seller lets buyer take the radiator and seller says if the radiator works for you just send me the $20 for it.
Seller also has another board member there as a witness to this.
Buyer is happy with the timing cover that is cleaned up and looks brand new with a brand new seal for $20.
Two weeks go by. Seller pms buyer's friend who brought the buyer there and vouched for him and advised of his own screen name at time of introduction, because he does not know buyer's screen name, if at all, and asks how the radiator worked out. Buyer's friend says not sure I will ask him.
Another week goes by. Seller pms buyer's friend and says did you get to speak with him yet. Buyer's friend says, no. But I will.
Another week goes by and seller pms buyer's friend and still....haven't heard from him.
Another week goes by and seller pms buyer's friend on a regular basis and now hears nothing no response at all....but knows he got the pms because cafords advised you when someone reads your pms.
Should I chalk it?
Should I no longer extend any courtesy to any fellow automotive enthusiast?
Put buyer's friends screen name on blast?
Ask for buyer's friends phone number and call him?
Ask buyer's friend , if this is a good friend of yours then why can't you get a hold of him or atleast tell me you can't?
Ask buyer's friend, if this is not a good friend of yours then why would you bring him over to a fellow board members place of residence and then vouch for him?
Here is my take on it:
I'll chalk it.
This is a small community this cafords community and I will see him again and get to ask him in person, that I am sure of. But in the meantime, it would be simple enough to just lie to me and say yeah that radiator was a piece of shit like we thought so we tossed it.
Or say yeah it worked great like you said it was and the $20 is in the mail.
Or to say, you are a punk and we took your radiator and have been whipping dee nuts in every town from here to frisco without overheating
SOMETHING, shit...
But to just cut a motha off and not respond to him period....that is just weak.... [ July 15, 2009, 12:32 PM: Message edited by: turbo50 ]

I'd have wrote off the $20 for the radiator as soon as he left with it. Be glad if he ended up paying but accept the fact that he might not.
I've been in both situations...I said I'd pay later when picking something up and have said I'd take money later for letting something go. Both cases ended up good.
What you should have done was tell him you'll return his money if the radiator didn't work. Your the seller so to me that would have made more sence.

It is not the money at this point. Matter of fact I am not sure I even want the money. I think it is more of the fact that I am getting more and more disappointed in people lately and the sad thing is I look up to my fellow car enthusiast and wouldn't expect this from them.....

Agreed. Next time this will be the case. A few people have recommended this.

Take it as a loss and don't help or deal with them anymore. Some people are just a pos. Some people are good to their word. You figure it's his loss I know you usually have stuff people want or need and your always there to lend a hand to people.

Charles, I could not agree more with your statement. People don't know how much keeping their word should mean now and days. Before, I would always give people the benefit of the doubt and believed that people were good in their hearts, but I have met so many bullshitters in my life that it has made me change the way I perceive people. But luckily God now and then blesses with meeting good people who redeem my belief.
Dan, being that I was the one there and can confirm that it went down exactly as indicated above, I would say to just let it go. I know it pisses you off that you extended someone your kindness, but unfortunately it was taken for granted. Eventually people like that meet up with a good friend named Karma.

why are you dealing with the buyer's friend?
and you know, this comes down to integrity. I would have sent you the $20 if I ended up using the radiator.
But you should let this one go and never hand over parts for free that you expect to get money for.
Chaulk it up as a lesson.
