This is actually great news. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aA_QjYuWXWzI&refer=home
This is the way business should go (the Darwin rule). I know I will get bashed, but I am a firm believer that big businesses should be allowed to fail, then re-invent themselves through a better business model. Bailing out GM would have been putting a band-aid on a shotgun wound. Many reports cited terrible vision, terrible business practices and gross fiscal arrogance.
I think this will be a case of "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger". But on the same token they are still floating them loans, which pisses me off.

Your 100% right N8, they should be allowed to fail but you forgot to mention along with all the terrible things they've done along the way they also designed terrible cars....... Except the Vette....... And the 55-56 Bel Air......... And the 65 Chevelle....... And the 70-73 Camaro

I've been in agreement with this from the beginning and taking heat for it daily, lol.
"Let the Bitch die!" Yes there will be short term pain, yes jobs will be lost, and yes people will have to re-shuffle their lives temporarily. But it is for the best in the long-run.
Bail-outs are usually temporary solutions and just delay the pain.

it's just not that easy.. just to say let it die.. look at all the other places that sell to gm/ dodge... seats, rims, etc... with out 2 of the big 3. you then have a lot of supply shops going to die also.. with the supply shops out. it makes it more costly/ harder to find parts for the remaining car builders.... i'm in no way a chevy fan.. but if they go out. look at all the jobs lost, not just from gm. but all the little guys that supply them... it's one of those fucked up catch 22's... just my .02

Not the best idea, in my opinion.

I don't like the fact that Obama and a group of people(he has chosen) are going to say what cars are built... How can you run a billion dollar business, if you have never ran a business before? have you guys notice's how nancy and timmy had to go to china and basically kiss as much ass as hey can.... What would we do if china said "cash us out" we would be so f'd up

From what I read it actually means that everyone loves GM and they are saving GM from failing. If this was truly Darwinism, the government would not step in and GM would go under and which they could then reinvent themselves and be a better but smaller car company.
As always we get screwed because our tax money is going to save a company headed by the government. You think if they turn GM in a green company they will start magically selling cars? Unless that green is called MJ it will still stink.

I somewhat like the posturing by Obama on this one. Although I am not 100% on the method. I think we as a nation need to be more globally conscience. I am not a true tree hugger, but I think we can be more responsible with our ecological foot print and personally I do not mind paying a little more for efficient cars in the future. And yes I have looked into ways personally to decrease my ecological footprint
I find it funny that people are not mad at the people who basically ran GM into the ground. But mad at the government for not bailing them out. I mean they purchased Hummer with eminent economic disaster staring in their faces. While Toyota and Honda were heading the other direction with their efforts, GM chose to make faulty investments, crap cars and fuel guzzling monstrosities.

I have gas guzzlers and love them, but another side of me thinks that some adjustment has to be made for a cleaner future. We know that with all the pollution were giving out were F'n up our planet. Our radical weather is telling us this along with many other things. Hopefully this leads to flying cars soon
Man I remember a few years back I had to do a project with financial analysis on all 6 automakers. GM was by far the strongest domestic and right on the edge of being on line with foreign makers. I never would of thought...
