Go DMV and take the written test so you can get your permit.

Permit --> Cant ride on freeways, cannot carry passenger, cannot ride at night.

After you have recieved your permitt, you have 1 year to finish the MSF (Motorcycle Safety Course) and to get your M1 license.

taking the msf course also counts as the riding portion of your test too! i took mine there and heard that the dmv course is a lil tougher.
anyways good luck

What chp course? You mean MSF? Yeah, go take that MSF course after you get your permit, that way after you get your MSF certification, you take it to DMV and they will give you your M1 license.

If you dont take the MSF course, then you will need to take the DMV DRIVE test on your bike, thats harder and plus it doesnt look too good on your insurance, so take the MSF course, it will get you better rates on your insurance.

I think MSF is $200-250.

Do I gotta take my class c license test over again if going for a m license

Nope - As long as you have a valid C class, you can get your M1

if you ever rode a bicyclee before you'll be fine. If you know how to drive a stick shift its a piece of cake. its just the clutch and shifter is all on the left. all your brakes on the right. And dont drop their bikes, they'll kick you out for the day and will have to come back another time to finish up. I got my license back in 2000 and one of their main rules is dont fuck up their bikes.

good luck

ps...try and buy a used bike as your first bike. you can find good deals on craigslist. just make sure you have the bike checked out by a certified mechanic. tell the person you are buying the bike from you'll pay to have it inspected.
i know people in the motorcycle industry and loans are a bitch to get right now...even with perfect credit.

you dont have to get your permit before taking the class. The class will be a 3 day course. first day will be all reading and writing. The 2nd day will be riding on the bike and 3rd day 1/2 learning and the second half taking your riding test. After you pass your test you can go to dmv and take your Motocycle written test. If you pass that , your legit!

I just did this about 2 years ago. The permit is the written part. If I remember correctly, you actually do one side of the Class C test as well. You have to pass both. You don't have to get your permit to do the course either, just like somebody else had mentioned. Yes the DMV test is pretty difficult. The only way to pass that is to borrow or use an on/off road bike. A guy that was testing there let me borrow his bike and I almost passed. If had atleast 10 minutes to practice on his bike before the test, I would have. I decided to take the 3 day class. The 3 day safety class is just like somebody had mentioned above. You take the first day in a classroom setting. The next day you go through the basics on the bike. The last do you go through some more advanced basic crap. At the end of the 3rd day, you take the driving test. I thought I was going to fail because they gave me a junker bike with the foot peg all bent up. I aced it though. After you pass you take it to the DMV and I believe they give you the paper license there. Good luck. Oh yeah, the class cost about 250 or so and you should reserve the class in advance. It took me a month to get in a class. The one off of Winona way is the cheapest.

Go to dmv take written test you get three chances to pass the test every six months. You can either take the three in a row or study and take them over time. I just took mine in a row and passed on the third test with no studying, so up to you.

Then take the course before your permit expires, cost IS $250 now and I heard it was going up to $275. If you are younger than 18 I think the cost is $200.

Once you pass the course then you just go to the DMV and they take a new photo and you get your license. No you don't have to do anything regarding your C class.

You will pass the course if you just don't drop thier bike during the final test.

unless you plan on driving on the back streets, I think that is a bad idea. It doesn't look street legal, nor does it look stable. It looks as if somebody used it as a stunt bike.

honestly just pick up a cheap 250 ninja to learn on then sell it 6 months later for what you paid. For some reason they don't really go down in value because noobs usually buy them up to learn on such as yourself. I did this and ended up selling my 250 for a few hundred more than what I paid. Now I have a 600rr which is more than enough for me. I'd like a 750 but I don't need it. 157mph on my 600 and I start freekin out as it is. Good luck and be safe. TAKE THE COURSE BEFORE YOUR SHIT EXPIRES. Look on it, permits expire pretty fast.

I know pretty weak. I wish they lasted at least two or something. I hate having to renew every year since I'm not 21 and really don't have the cash to take the class. [patriot]
