I know we've got a couple or few computer people in here, anybody have recommendations on where I can take a computer to attempt to recover some lost files?
Thanks.

There are lots of companies that do it but be prepared to break bread. My friend paied $750 to have some files recovered from a crashed disc.
If the problem is that Windows is fucked up and wont boot you may be able to put the disk in another computer and copy the files off.
Good luck

whats wrong with the computers and or hard drives? It maybe as simple as slapping them in another computer as a slave. There are a couple of utilities that may be able to help you before sending it out. But yea data recovery people charge grip for that. I would google data recovery or post back here with some more details. Google may be faster tho.

The computer is actually working fine, there's hardly any files on it. The problem is some important audio files seem to have been lost, so cost is not much of an issue. The person also uses an external hard drive that the computer apparently backs up information on to monthly so we'll be bringing that in also.

If this is a XP machine have you tried restore points?
May sound funny too, but did you check the recycle bin?

I think its a vista, and yes I checked the bin haha. I haven't tried restore as I don't wanna risk not being able to recover the file, so I'll just let the pros take a stab at it.
