I thought if you bought the tires at americas tire they install them free.

No they dont do them free. They have free flat repairs though, regardless if you're a existing customer or not.

No, but they had a deal a while back in their ebay store (Americas Tire Co Direct) and I bought two 245-50-16 Nitto drag radials for $256 shipped! They were only $128 each and had free shipping. I couldn't pass them up. I am just waiting for my old ones to be completely bald. I got a bunch of mid 1.7 60fts on them last week. My best was a 1.725, so I am finally learning how to launch on them or they hook better when bald!

So $480 out the door for some 235/65/17's is pretty good (wifes car).
They just price matched tirerack.com

Did you try Les Schwab? Could have price matched plus got a side of beef or a bucket of smoked sausage
