Honestly you don't want this on your record money or not. At this point I wouldn't worry about the cost of the ticket or cost of a laywer,...but yes get a laywer. Any decent yellow page laywer will be able to get it down for you to infraction of the the speed limit. That is worse than a speeding ticket but better than wreckless driving or speed contest. Then have him ask for community service to pick up trash on the freeway. but don't just do nothing,... that is the worst thing you can do.

ask for infraction of the speed limit
ask for community service
ask for lower fine amount (no matter what they slap you with)
Let lawyer do all the talking. Only talk to the judge if he/she talks to you and keep your shit short.
Good luck with that, I know the courts and the system are much more strict today on trafic violations than just a few years ago.

I had one.
Absolutly sucked.
30 day minimum impound. You can go to a tow hearing but the only way to get it back is to have it registered under someone elses name including yourself. If you can go down to the DMV and add your mother to the reg. Take her down to the tow hearing with you and hopefully the cop doesnt notice she was recently added.
Full 30 day impound fee will be 3K+.
Get a lawyer if possible. I tried to find one versed in Speed contest but could not find one so I got a public defender. If they reduce it dont let them reduce it to an a, b , or c 23109 infraction they are all two pointers. (stupid Public defender fucked me)
Ticket is a 2 point major that will leave you on probation for 1 year. Ticket points do not go away for seven years. No driver school elegibility.
Just hope you were not going 100+ when caught. That is also another 30 day impound on top of 30 day license suspension. (financial hardship is not a safficient reason to get your car back, either is your family memeber is sick and you are sole provider).
Be prepared to come out of pocket for about 10K not including the insurance rate increase which will double tripple or quadruple your premium. Also if you have ahd a point in the last year speading running a red ect, this violation will revoke your driving privalages for one year manditory.
Wish you luck and fight that son of a bitch.
P.S. go to first court hearing and tell them you are going to get your own attorney. At that point go to your next arreingment (sic) and let them know you could not find an attorney and to appoint you a public defender. They have to then hear your case within 45 days or it is thrown out. Show up for your next court date and ask for an extension. You should now be about 3-5 months past the offence date. Go to court and hope the cop doesnt show!

My buddy had one at 18, and he thought he'd be smart and fight the ticket. He got screwed and its now on his record, had to pay a s load of money. If you cant afford a lawyer, take a deal if you can to get it knocked down. Depending on the circumstances of course. If the cop is the main witness, dont mess around because their word is like gold to judges.

wow....I am so glad I drive like a granny now. I used to drive like a nut when I was young.
But yea, I wouldn't just do nothing. But I wouldn't go in there like Perry Mason either. Jdub gave some sound advice (especially the part about keeping your pie hole shut).

I got one and a smog ticket at the same time in Folsom. The guy was nice and let me drive it home and didn't impound it. He thought my car was too nice to put on a tow truck. I fought it, a lawyer friend owed me some service. The judge was pissed that it got as far as it did cause we were about to call a jury and start trail. Knocked the exhibition to a speed infraction two points uncorrectable for 2 years and the smog ticket to a 150buck modified exhuast ticket. Got out of the whole thing with about 600 in fines and court fees and a couple points that will go away in a couple of years. I think I came out pretty well. Should have never got it though in the first place. The original cop that pulled me over said I was racing somebody and that I was peeling out for about a 1/4 mile on east bidwell. She said she had to do 90+ to catch up to me. It was 1 in the morning with nobody on the road and she thought I was drunk. Stupid bitch fucked me for a few years.

I was speeding, thats about it. And of course the smog shit. But she acted like I was leaving a parking lot like a top fuel dragster and that I was so out of control I almost lost it. Which all I did was go around water that was being sprayed out into the street from a busted sprinkler head. She thought I had a gun in the back seat of my car too. It was my chrome craftsmen timing light. When she asked me if I was drunk I told her no which I wasn't and she insited that I looked like I was drinking. I told her to go to her car and get her breathalizer and I will blow zeros. She got pissed and said that she was gona speak the orders around here. I told here that she was being really rude and wrongfuly accusing me. At that point it was my word verses hers so I thought what I got in court was pretty good.

LOL. I JUST HAD THE SAME POSTING A FEW MONTHS AGO FOR THE SAME REASON. I ASKED THE PEOPLE OF THIS FORUM FOR ADVICE AND TALKED TO A FEW LAWYERS. IN THE END I PAID $1500 TO GET MY CAR OUT OF THE IMPOUND WITH DAMAGE DONE TO IT. AND SKIPED THE LAWYER AND SHOWED UP TO MY ARRANGEMENT AND PLEADED NO CONTEST, WHERE I THEN PAID A FINE OF $1800. I HAD SEVERAL POINTS BEFORE THIS LAST CONVICTION OF 23109A AND DID NOT GET MY LICENSE SUSPENDED! I DEFINITELY LEARNED MY LESSON AND WONT BE GIVE $4000 AWAY AGAIN!

Yeah you say that again!!!! OUCH Thats why I think I got out pretty good. No tow or impound, no lawyer fees and walked away with two points that will be gone in two years and minus a little over 600 bucks. Still learned my lesson to never driver my mustang on the roads again.
