you may want to send in a hard copy also. our system is having issues with the IRL's (internet release of liability) being put on the vehicle record but not being updated. So i highly recommend you send in a hard copy.

Print out a copy for your records when you do it online. It gives you a time and day stamp to prove exactly when you sent it. Also, keep a signed bill of sale for your records. If any agencies try to pin tickets or fees on you then just refer to CVC 5602 while showing the bill of sale and release liability. I don't suggest sending it by mail anymore because the online option gives you a time/day stamp. Whereas, the only way to get a time/day stamp to prove you mailed in the release of liability is to physically go to DMV and have them stamp it (then you have to make a copy of it too).
