I picked up an 88 Vert a few years back off ebay. It all comes down to if you can trust the seller and make sure to ask if they have the title. I drove all the way down to LA for the car and the guy didn't even have the title, I got a lost title form instead. I was kinda pissed but everything worked out ok, just make sure you ask all questions before making the bid.... oh yeah, don't buy a car if its currently out of the country even if it is a great deal. it comes down to what you are buying.

I would consider looking for a 93 cobra or 87-93 notch on ebay

however...

buying a sight unseen reg car just seems too risky to me. I personally would not ever consider ebay with anything short of an "enthusiast" car.

I have and I will never do it again lol. The motor that the man said was in it needed lots of work the heads were screwed all the fogger nozzels had vacuum leaks the wiring to the motor looked good but after that some hack connect wired to the harness in a lot of butt connectors. If you do ask the person for all the invoices for all the work. I think the car I bought the dude bought blew up and didn't have a clue on how to put it back together all in all I would never do it again

i bought my 03 cobra off ebay. bid buy it now and met the buyer in the bay area.i guess this is slightly different since i was able to view the car in person after committing the bid. had there been an issues with the car that wasnt as advertised i wouldve either negotiated the price further or just passed on it. buying sight unseen is too risky.

Yeah, it would have to be shipped if I bought it. It's actually a bike (2004 Buell XB12R) with only 3k miles and all stock. I can't find any used ones locally.

It all comes down to your gut feeling on if you can trust the buyer or not. If they have a ton of good feedback from people he's sold to, provides good pictures and details then I'd do it. I sold one car on there and the deal went very smooth but I was totally upfront about everything, he was very happy with the deal when he showed up.

do it john, see if first you can get the # of the person selling, talk to them and see if they sound reputable. I bought an r6 from ebay 6 years back, it was exactly as described.

Whatever you do man make sure you have the guy send you pictures of the title so you know they have it. i cant tell you how many applications for transfers or registration i see come into work with cars that have been bought off ebay and dont have the title. its a clusterfuck. so make sure you at least have that outside of all the other things you have to deal with regarding long distance purchases

In addition, I can't tell you how many times I have gone to see a car (after viewing the pics, reading the description, running the carfax, and talking to the owner) only to discover hidden problems that broke the deal for me during my viewing.

Unless it is a rare car that you are willing to invest in, buying site unseen is complete lunacy to me...

(I should mention that I bought my 93 coupe in AZ back in 2002 after going back and forth with an honest owner for a few days)

One thing you can always do to protect yourself is to win the auction, and then go to see it. If anything is a miss, go ahead and pass on it. It may get you negative feedback, but might avoid a huge financial headache.

I assume you sold the Ranger? I sold my 94GT DD and am back in a 96 2.3L reg cab. Love the 4cyl trucks for daily driving duty.

What are you in the market for now?
Best of Luck Hippo
