I am in the process of selling my RX-7 and I am going to get back into Mustangs. This time around I want to get a Fox Body Notchback.
Doing some initial searching around on craigs list, auto trader, classifieds, etc. I am finding that most of the notchbacks have salvaged titles , or in just horrible condition, or are terrible condition 2.3L’s, best one so far I have found is a clean notchback but with an auto.
My question is this. How did you guys get your cars? Did you buy a nasty one and do a full restoration to it, or did you get a nice condition 2.3L and do the V 8 conversion, or find an auto and do the 5-speed swap, etc?
With all the nice pictures of sweet Notchbacks I am just interested to see how everyone else got there cars up to the condition there in now.

I own a hatch so I could be way off base but from what I see and hear there are just less notches around...so when a clean 5.0 5 speed notch IS up for sale that is why they cost $2k+ more than a hatch.
Best of luck on your search...I've seen only a few worthy notches in the MONT

I bought a nice clean, stock, unabused, auto car and dropped a 5 speed in it, then a motor, then a blower

Its not just coupes. You have to remember that these 87-93 cars are between 13-19 years old. MOST of them are beat up, salvaged, in junkyards, have high mileage, or are just generally unmaintained.
I looked for about 18 months locally and all I found was beat up syde-show junk around here.
I started looking out of state and I finally picked up my current notch in Pheonix, AZ from an older guy who lost interest and said he didn't have time for it anymore. That was summer of 2002.
Be prepared to pay $5-8K+ for a nice one that doesn't need anything.
Here is mine:
Remember, there are far less notches to begin with. So if you want a notch WITH a V8 AND a 5 speed AND black or grey interior AND in great shape, AND with low miles, be ready to pay a premium.
Your other option is to buy an AOD or one that is in worse condition and put the work in to make it how you like it.
If I found a clean AOD I would not hesitate to buy it and do a T5 conversion. Obviously I would not pay as much to begin with however. [ December 08, 2006, 01:50 PM: Message edited by: Luke87GT ]
