Hey guys anyone have experience using a dig camcorder that uses mini dvd's.
When you go to initialize the disc it asks which format you'd like and i always use "VIDEO" which says that you can't edit on the cam but allows you to view on any dvd player.
Now how do i get the vids from the dvd onto my comp.
Sorry for the lame ass ? but it's not my dig cam and i want to try and post some racing vids for Mark(1320Master) and also for all stuff from the last TNT for all to see
Can anyone help out.....anyone have the same dig cam (SONY)

What kind of sony is it? Most of the sony's have a firewire port. If you have a firewire card on your PC, then you can use windows movie maker to capture the video onto your computer and continue to edit from there. There might also be software to extract the vide from the DVD itself.. try www.vcdhelp.com. There's loads of info on that site.

Thanks that's kinda where my confusion was!
Thought i could only extract the vids off the dvd but would rather not have to go through all that.
I'll find out the exact dig cam. but i'm for sure it's a Sony.

It's not a USB port, firewire and USB are two seperate plugs. That's a firewire plug. I'm a little rusty on this stuff, but if you use USB to capture the video, it'll take forever since it's slow.
On that specs page it lists this: Digital Audio/Video Output(s): Yes (via i.LINK®)
I'm pretty sure it has firewire capability then. Alot of laptops also have a firewire port, so all you gotta do is go buy the cable if you don't have one. Hope that helps you out a little.
There are ways to pull footage off of a DVD but I've never played around with it. [ November 21, 2006, 03:07 PM: Message edited by: DLo ]

Thanks that's what i was hoping.....i'm obviously not too good when it comes to this stuff.
So usb works well with pics but not vids.....firewire is better due to size of vids....is that correct.
I'll pick up one of those cables on my way home tonight.

I guess that's how it is. All digital picture cameras usually use USB. Then the video stuff uses firewire. There's USB 2.0 out now, which is faster than the old USB... but I have no idea how that compares to firewire.
Let me know if you have trouble capturing the video. Windows Movie Maker is actually really easy to work with
