I'm looking to get new tires for my car. I have 17" x 9 Cobra wheels on it right now. Here is what I am looking for:

- Good dry traction
- decent tread wear
- Something that won't kill my wallet

What brand do you guys recommend? Also how big can I go in the back w/o rolling the fender or hitting the quad shocks.

I'm currently looking at the BFG KDWs. What do you guys think of these tires?

Drag radials would be the best traction option but I need something that will last longer and be more streetable.

I was also looking at the Bridgestone Potenza 750's. Anyone ever have these on their car?

Ok, wider isn't always better first of all. Its better to have a tire that fits the rims properly, rather then to bubble the sidewall out. For a 17x9 you should not go wider then a 285/40/17. For a fox, I would stick with the 275/40/17's on those rims for best fitment. Yes you can fit wider, but you get alot of tire sidewall rollover in corners. It eats the tires from the inside out when you do this. The BFG is a great tire, alot more costly then some great tires that are in the same range of quality. Nitto's 555, is a great street tire that will actually last longer then the KD or KDW. The KDW is also a wet tire. Hense the W designation. The KD and KDW are also known to get hard, if you get the tires hot. (ie; burnouts and so fourth). The Yokohama AVS ES100's do the same. Instanly get a bit scarey when it rains. AVON makes a cheap tire (The Tech M500) that is about 6 of 10 on traction dry, 8 of 10 in rain. They wear slow, so they last ok. Stay away from the Kumho Supra 712's. Cheap Z tires, that is very slippery when power is applied. Great tire to look into in the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3. Super tires for dry and wet. Cost about even with the BFG's. Better traction.

Question?
Are you looking for a tire to go hit the strip with too, or just a get around tire that can stick in some corners?

Thanks man! I don't really take my car to the track. I just drive it on the street. I'm looking to have it stick around corners and get decent traction from a stop light. I'm also looking for something that won't wear out too quick. I was looking at tires with 280-340 tread wear.

Where can I get a good deal on the Eagle F1 GS-D3's? I looked them up on Tire Rack and they were over $200 each for the 275/40/17's (compared to $170 for the BFGs)?

I'll definitely take your advice and stick with 275/40/17's in the back. What about the front? I have 245/45/17's on there now.

I couldn't find test info or have personal experience with those.

Here's what NEXEN says.

Dynamic “V”-shape aqua pattern design.
The drainage performance has been maximized and driving comfortableness has been strengthened.
In addition, the riding comfort is improved by reducing the noise and vibration with a new dynamic pattern and sidewall design contributes not only the performance but also styling in highest efficiency.
The improvement of driving comfortableness.
The wider tread block in the center of tire makes handling and driving comfortableness satisfied and also, improves the comfortableness remarkably at high speed and increases impact absorption during driving at the rough road.
The highest turning ability at high speed.
The wider block design at shoulder part increases the strength of block and is superior to turning ability and elusion of unpredictable situation by raising the resistance to crosswise
Force.

I would go with the 245's up front, if you want to go for all out you can run a 255/40/17 for a wider, but smaller side profile. But being an odd size, cost goes up. 245/45/17's are alot more common.

As far as the tire cost, how soon are you planning to order them? If right now, or this week, go to Tirerack at $206 ea. for 275/40/17's
If you can wait a week, PM me for info.

I am putting some 295/30/18's pirellis in the rear of my foxbody. Got rims and tires for a pretty decent price. Reallyu have to look around, I know you won't be ablt to go with 295's but point is... keep you ears open for someone selling rims and tires for a good deal. You might be able to sell rims and keep the tires for almost free.
