As long as the motor is newer than the car you put it in and all the smog equipment for the year, make and model is there the swap is no big deal. I knew a guy that had a mid 80's Toyota 4WD with a 91 5.0 in it.... looked like Ford put the motor in there stock.

This is true, as long as the motor is newer than the car and has all the smog equipment it will pass smog just fine.
My 5.0L in my Jeep passes everytime
