I got some spyware/adware i can't get rid of. Its funny cause its adware for a spyware removal program. ![[Roll Eyes]](rolleyes.gif) Its down in the right bottom corner of my screen near my clock. I am forgot how i can access what programs to have start up when the computer turns on. I want to turn this adware off because every 5 minutes it tells me "Critical System error! System Detects spyware" I can't find it in my taskmanager so i am hoping i can find the program startup so i can manually delete this off my computer. So if anyone can tell me it would be much appreciated, i have Windows XP.

click start, click run
type msconfig
then go to startup and disable anything that looks odd, do one thing at a time, save and reboot.
dont disable something you arent sure about so you dont jack it up.

theres two things that don't have a name or a location ![[Frown]](frown.gif) everything else checks out.
Also everytime i restart my computer when it boots up it tells me my RunDL has errored.

Personally, I have an 500 gig external HDD that I back up all my crap to. I reformat and do a fresh install of XP every 6mo, time permitting.
Try Spybot, adaware, and antivir.

I did some searching on the internet and its a freaking trojan virus I'm trying to get it off now, i must have opened something in my email. I don't remember doing that though

So i get home tonight and my norton keeps popping open a little window telling me i have a trojan horse virus
It kept doing it so i restarted the computer and ran norton, it found it and i was able to quarantine the virus! Now that stupid pop up window that kept telling me i have a virus on my computer is gone! Stupid adware crap!
It took a week for norton to find the virus but still i am soo happy its gone!

you mean system restore? i turned that off because system restore saves adware and viruses. So i turned it off when i realized i had a virus.

yeah, system restore. when did you turn it off? it should save several times a week so you can roll it back a month, i believe.
turn it back on and restore from a previous date.

I turned it off a week ago and that wouldn't help because system restore backs up viruses and adware into all of teh restore points.
