alright, as many of you know, I wanted to sell/trade my bike for a foxbody. I finally sold the bike and am in the "process" of buying a car, but here are the issues:

1. Registration and everything is paid, BUT its not smogged YET. I am getting it "smogged" on Saturday and will have a certificate.

2. The pink slip was lost, so either he or I need to file for a new one.

My question is what would be the quickest way to get this car into my name legitimately? I am waiting until saturday, in which he'll have the smog certificate. After that, he was planning on going to DMV (maybe Monday) to get the new sticker and registration card, BUT on the smog paper, it says that DMV will send it after the car passes smog...would he or I be able to go to DMV to pick up the sticker to make things quicker or does he have to wait for it in the mail?

Next question is... would it be easier/quicker if he sold it to me with a bill of sale stating "As-Is" and then I show the smog certificate? Or would it be easier if he handled that before signing into my name?

Last question is about the title...would it be quicker/easier if he signed the car over to me with a bill of sale and then I file for the title, or should he take care of all that beforehand?

I am just getting really anxious to get this car and I know the guy, so I trust that he won't do any shady shit behind my back. I just would like to know what the easiest and safest way would be to handle this situation...Thanks in advance [patriot]

If I were you, I would go to the DMV myself. You need to turn in your paperwork in anyhow for the purchase of the vehicle. At that time apply for new pink slip. If you rely on others you might find out that it will still be in their name because the seller might forget or not find it a priority to file things. This is what I would do.

thanks for the advice 95GT...
as for the carfax, it came out the way he explained...clean title, no problems, excpet the mileage thing, which I've seen on many cars since foxes turn back at 100k miles.

I wouldnt buy the car unless the pink actually transfers into my hand when the money transfers. Without that pink you caould have some problems. Ask him to get the pink or have him fille for the lost one and put it to your address. Go together to do this. I have seen people get got over on doing it this way.
