I guess jimmy snuffy wont be making $25/hr to assemble seat brackets anymore...

DETROIT - The main US auto union called Ford Motor Co.'s decision to cut tens of thousands of jobs "devastating" and blamed the company management for the failure to protect market share. Ford announced that it would cut 25,000-30,000 jobs and close 14 assembly plants as part of a restructuring plan to stem massive losses in its North American vehicle operations. "The restructuring plan announced this morning by Ford is extremely disappointing and devastating news for the many thousands of hard-working men and women who have devoted their working lives to Ford," United Auto Workers president Ron Gettelfinger said in a statement.

-----------His Statement-------------
The restructuring plan announced this morning by Ford is extremely disappointing and devastating news for the many thousands of hardworking men and women who have devoted their working lives to Ford. The impacted hourly and salaried workers find themselves facing uncertain futures because of senior management's failure to halt Ford's sliding market share.

"The announcement has further left a cloud hanging over the entire work force because of pending future announcements of additional facilities to be closed at some point in the future. Unfortunately, analyst and media speculation during the last month has made these events even more wrenching for Ford workers, their families and communities.

"The announced plant closings and future announcements are the subject of ongoing discussions with Ford. Certainly, today's announcement will only make the 2007 negotiations all the more difficult and all the more important.

"Like the 2002 plan, Ford's new `Way Forward' is based on cutting jobs and closing facilities to `align' Ford's production capacity with shrinking demand for Ford's vehicles. Then, as now, the focus should instead be on striving to gain market share in this competitive market by offering consumers innovative and appealing products.

"The UAW-represented workers affected by today's action are covered by the job security program and all other provisions and protections of the UAW-Ford National Agreement. Our union will rigorously enforce those programs."

No one is blaming UPS or your union for this. UAW was definitely too hard nosed for years tho.

I hate unions. I have been in 3 so far and all they ever did was take money every month. I have a decent non union job now with the same pay and benefits. I think they make companys look evil to the worker and make you think you need them to get a fair wage. New cars cost as much as they do because Jojo the monkeyboy gets $25 an hour to do something as simple as assembling a set belt..... just my .02 though.

asskicking could the problem be the amount of jobs you have been through LOL. I love my union job I will love it even more when I can retire at 55 making just about my full wage.

BTW can somebody point me to the cheap non union made cars that are just as good as the big 3? they can't all be union made, how about the Europen cars are they union made? They are cheap right.

Jobs are not lost they will most likley go to a foreign country so people can do the same thing for a 5th of the cost. Thank the US Gov for that one. Anyhow this can get ugly discusing politics so I am out.... [burnout]

I know what your saying, just havent had good luck with them myself. Unions dont stop companys from screwing people around though, they just make them get more creative with how to do it. The last union I was with got a new contract for the workers that got everyone more money. More money for me = more money the union takes and I ended up in a higher tax bracket to boot. After all was said and done I ended up with a smaller paycheck. The owner of the company was pissed off so we didnt have a Christmas party or anything. He got rid of all the extras and treated everyone like shit because of the whole thing. I just dont like it.......

Sorry Mike, most unions are garbage.

At my first and only union job the guys I worked with said "Slow down! You're working too hard and you're making us all look bad" All I know how to do is work hard and do my job as fast and efficiency as possible. The company I worked for (berkeley farms dairy) has a bunch of lazy ass fuckers just doing barely enough to keep the place running. If there were more people like me working there a hell of a lot more work would have been done and the company would have made/saved a ton more. If I can deliver 300 cases of milk in 8 hours and my coworker can only do 200 cases in 8 hours should I make the same as him/her? Should the company I work for say "Adam, you do a great job here and your productivity is way better than everyone else here but you don't deserve to make anymore money." That's just not fair to the hard workers.

The worse part about unions is the fact that I have no incentive to work harder. I get paid the same if I work like the lazy asses or if I work hard.

How is that the best way to run a business?? [Confused]

If the buisness isn't getting the production out of the workers they can offer incentives for the hard working ones to hit. Our campany does the guy's who burn it up can make some good money for when they are out on Comp when they hurt themselves later in life(and all the guy's busting ther butts to out do everybody always do). I guess in the Bay area it is easy to find non-union jobs that have retirement, health, dental, visiion care, paid sick days, plus vacation, and a good hourly wage. where I live it is not, so to each there own. Every company has it's good and bad things but for me I hope I always have a union job
