Did anyone elese see the show Test Drive on SpeedTV the other night. They were test driving 2 2006 Z06s at Road Atlanta. They do a 0-60 in 3.7 and the 1/4 in 11.7et, with a top speed of 198, all with a factory waranty. Those Vette were looking very sweet and straight attacking that track with ease. Got me thinking about going over to the Dark Side [Eek!]

Comparing the GT to a ZO6 is doesn't make sense on the track.

RWD/Rear-engine won't compare to RWD/Front-engine on the track theory-wise. I want to see a road course comparison test. And not a stupid slalom speed test.

$65,000 vs. 04 Cobra + equivalent in mods) = no competition

All this car looks like to me is another mid-life crisis mobile that will be babied.

If you are a true car guy, you can respect the Z06.
No Blue Hair in this bad boy.

This is some repectful company. Also considering it is the cheapests out of the bunch. There are some 200-300k cars on that list. I think I will dye my hair blue for a factory 11sec car with a waranty. Avengeance nice post [Smile]

I don't get the people that don't, or should I say refuse, to admit that the c6 z06 is probably one of the most complete and well developed car to roll out of factory.
That whole mentality of "yeah.. Give me a cobra and 30k in mods and it will destroy a z06" makes me laugh..
I'd say.. Give me Honda civic and 50k in mods and it'll destroy that cobra too.. Once you start modifying a car is no longer about the potential of the car but about how deep your pockets are.

Viper yes Ford GT no. The Ford GT still out performs the Vette in every test I have read but for the money it's Vette all the way!

The "I coulda', woulda', shoulda' with $XXXX in mods" is such a weak ass argument. Sure there is validity in it but like said, once modded said car isnt comparable anymore.

Does anyone have any knowledge of a GT Nurburgring times? I havent found any and Im curious now... Im sure its on par or better.

Either way its nice to see BOTH American companies bringing out some big guns that put major ASS WHOOPINS' on some of the big dawg imports. [patriot]

Just a side not on the ZO6 at the Nurburgring, attendents there said that the ZO6 was really fast, they also said that the noise comming from that thing could be no other than a supercharger...I read this comment in the last Road & Track Mag I have...

I wonder if those times were with an N/A ZO6?.....Either way the ZO6 is bad ass and I'd take one anyday....

EDIT= R&T refered to the boosted ZO6 as King Kong, it's a blue one just like the afore mentioned pics...

Compare the amount of people that have modified Cobras vs. modified Corvettes ON THE STREET and you'll see my point.

I drive pass 3 C4 model Automatic Corvettes on my block everyday that are washed weekly and probably never abused. This is why I see them as a mid-life trophy car that most over the hump husbands own just to show off. There may be some exceptions but I just don't see enough around the bay to make this statement so. This may be different for C5's on the road course though.

If you're taking about the "modifying a car is no longer about the potential of the car but about how deep your pockets are". (grammar)

Why do you modify your coupe then? To perform better right? Weren't you looking for a coupe because of its rigidity and lighter weight compared to a GT or Convertible Fox body?

If you talking about the potential of a car and not modding it buy a Ferrari/Porsche and be done with it. I wouldn't buy a $65,000 Chevy just to get mopped on by a 10-second Cobras with Ported KBs that spent less than $45k. Or Turbo Fox bodies that spent prolly $20k.

Luke87GT was FIVE seconds slower than the C6 and EIGHT seconds slower than the ZO6 for probably spending $40,000 less. If that doesn't talk about "potential" for you, than I don't know what does.

Last time I logged on, I noticed this was caFORDS.com. Where's the Ford GT(40) on that list anyway? I don't understand magazine racers sometimes.

Although I agree that the fox has tremendous potential with the right parts, I must admit, I was totally, fully, and utterly kidding when I threw my name into that elite list, lol (:

Didn't mean to spoil your arguement.

My car's handling has improved a LOT since I redid the suspension with all new parts 600/250 springs, Tokico's, new bushings, etc.

I played with a z06 a few weeks ago on the backroads of Highway 4 between Pinole and Martinez (you locals know what I am talking about), and he made me look silly. The vette was so smooooooth and sooo flat in the turns. Truly world class!

How is having a driver run the famous Nurburgring, then posting factual #s, considered "mag racing"?

Did you not read the list? Name a Ferrari thats above the ZO6s posted time, on a real course, not some stupid slalom speed test. Of course, then again, I dont see the ENZO on that list, but thats a $1M car.

You mention the Porsche... you do know what a Porsche Carrera GT costs, right? $450K I believe.

Look man.. youre right that you can take a Cobra and mod it to hang or beat the new ZO6. IMO you sound like a typical GM hater (no offense)... which IMO isnt a true car enthusiest. I, along with everyone here giving props to the new ZO6, are true car enthusiests. I dont believe in brand loyalty.... I like anything that performs. Hell... if it was financially possible Id consider selling my SS for a 03/04 Cobra. (dont tell my GM buddies I said that) [Razz]

As far as the bystanders claiming the ZO6 had a S/C on it... I dont think its true. The C5 ZO6 isnt that far from the C6 ZO6 on that list, but you have to consider the C6 ZO6 is STRIDES ahead of the C5 ZO6.

wow, i never knew people could be so closed minded. yes, you can make a car faster in a straight line, but it will never handle or ride as nice as the c6 z06

How is having a driver run the famous Nurburgring, then posting factual #s, considered "mag racing"?

If you talking about the potential of a car and not modding it buy a Ferrari/Porsche and be done with it.

What I still wonder about is why "The Ring" in Germany is regarded such a track of performance baseline when probably 1% of this board will travel on it (or race their own car on it for that matter).

I'm not a GM hater at all. I just don't believe in spending $65,000 on a car when I'd rather wrench on a mustang.

I don't understand why everyone holds this car in such high regard for such a steep price. Not many people will own this car, and even a smaller percentage will race it against people in the REAL WORLD. It's just what I see on the streets compared to times on a road course that is over 2,000 miles away from my garage.

Worship it the Z06 all you want. Buy one and rub in my face that nothing can compete against it if that tickles your fancy. But until I see it mop on some domestic muscle around the Bay Area will I respect it. To me, it's just an invisible domestic supercar at an extravagant price.
