Just found this out from ford, the shorty headers by Ford Racing are not CA smog legal. Just thought I'd share, pretty bummed about that because I was told that since they are ford parts they would be considered OEM replacements. But, they aren't.

My MAC's have a plate welded on the drivers side with the CARB # engraved on it.

That is a bummer. You'd think Ford be in compliance with smog laws.

Put the stockers back on just for the smog check. I know...what a pain! I have some if you want them.

Parts only need CARB numbers if they are not designed as a direct OEM factory replacement part. For instance, the Edelbrock Performer 5.0 RPM II (#7123) intake does not have a CARB number, but is emissions legal as it is designed as a factory replacement part. You'll see similar statements as the one below for certain headers and distributors. If those headers have a Ford part number, I would argue that they are OEM replacement parts.

http://www.jegs.com/InstallationInstructions/300/350/350-7123.pdf

"Emissions Systems:
This manifold is intended as a direct replacement for the factory intake manifold. All emissions related factory components are to be retained and functional. The manifold is, therefore, legal for street use in all 50 states, and no C.A.R.B. E.O. number is required. Check local laws for requirements"

I had a smog shop tell me my painted stock headers weren't smog legal years ago. Went to a different shop & they had no problem with my painted stock headers.
