I have the rear end (8.8") out of my car to put in gears and 31 spline diff/axles. I heard that it would be a good idea to weld my axle tubes where they meet the housing since I have it all apart. Is this a good idea and are there any tips that would be helpful? I have a MIG welder that isn't particularly large but I think it can handle the job.

Thanks

Make sure it's completely clean. Spot weld at 90* spots, let it cool, then a continuous bead.
