i just recently bought a 96 ford taurus for a grand. it has code po340

how do i test it, do i just replace it or do i have to set it a certain way? the car runs great but i only got 12.5 mpg to this tank{my first tank with the car} so would this code/ sensor make for bad mpg? again like i said it runs great. also car has 175k. i did clear the code thinking maybe it just hadnt been reset but it came back on. the scanner i used says po340 cam postion sensor A circut{bank 1 or single sensor}

other problem is. guy put a pulley on the power steering puimp. steering is fine but at time it get hard to turn like it has no p/s what would cause that?

if it is not the sensor, then change the alternator. when the alt goes bad it sometimes messes with the cps.
