so my friend just bought a 5.0. and he wants to buy shorty headers, 70mm throttle body, cold air intake for it. bout 600 dollars in parts. i keep telling him these things will gain him a combined maybe 5-10hp. it already has o/r x pipe and catback. 3.73's. am i wrong?

yes you are.. you can be a buddy and have him get parts on here for way cheaper. heres about how muc i spent once before
short headers-100 new from summit cold air intake- 50 cafords throttle body 80 cafords.
equals way less than 600

Yeah he refuses to buy used parts. I already told him to look on here. He wants ceramic coated shorties, accufab throttle body, and jlt intake. Which is actually more than 600

the jlt intake won't do anything, the other parts will.
the stock air box on a 5.0 is good for 11's with just the silencer removed and a k&n filter.
if it's a MAF 5.0, then a pro-m MAF would be a better buy.

70mm tbody won't do much on a stock intake as the opening is much smaller. As stated a above the CAI won't do mch either. If the car has only the mods you listed then here is what I would do
* shorties * K&N filter * pulleys * bump up timing
If your buddy has more money to spend then put on a cobra intake, 65mm tbody, and bigger MAF

save ur money get a holly system max upper lower pro m meter accufam throtl in fender well k and n filter no bbk i uesed to be a big fan of them but u get what u pay for then depending what u want to do withe the cat take out ac bump up timing do pulleys change water pump to a better one if u can electric if u have slump change alternator and get optima battery located in the trunk with a cap rear delet seat to make you much litter i love fox body best body style ever

i guess im just a dumb@$$ but for $600 id squirt it and dip into the 12's, save the other $100 for street racing
but hey... im not afraid to go fast
other than that ... 4.10's and mickey's
