Yeah anything over 500rwhp on a stock 5.0l block and its on borrowed time.
Now if you start with a 351 block, it will make much more than that before it even thinks about breaking... [Big Grin]

There are plenty of Mark VIII swapped engines put into fox bodies and other cars which well over 500rwhp not. Are you trying to say it is easier to make 500rwhp+ with a 5.0 engine than a 4.6 dohc? All you need is a blower on the 500rwhp stock internals.

I wouldn't say "plenty", there's a few. The 5.0's outnumber them plenty.
You said "Modular", not 4.6 DOHC. A 4.6 SOHC/DOHC would have a tough time w/o something breaking, especially the early model ones when comparing stock vs. stock.

I may be wrong, but that looks like a pushrod motor, not a modular. Am i missing something?? [Confused]

hes is saying that modualrs are better than pushrod motors stregth wise, and the modualr blocks are very strong, stronger than a pushrod motor

but I just dont really care because he is proud to drive a stinkin lincoln with a detuned 4 valve motor, it was a pathetic jab at an older motor that he cant not touch when on the streets [Roll Eyes]

ok then, put a blower on your motor, make your 500rwhp and then when it blows up let me know how it went

That is true the stock rods and pistons don't hold up well after 400rwhp on the 4.6 dohc but it is cheaper to replace those than to buy a racing Dart or Ford Racing block, cam and valvetrain, and new heads in order to make the same horsepower. Anyways, I never meant to make this thread into a modular vs pushrod debate, I was just pointing out that Ford has been building better blocks in recent V8 engines.

not really, a C code 351w ('69) block is the same as a motorsports A351w block (basically) and is rated at what? 650 HP. That's not a lot more than the 500 to the wheels that even the late model thin-wall hyd-roller 302 blocks get.

maybe another 100 rwhp safely but that's about it. And I'd say less than that if your nabbing a late model hydraulic 351w block.

Anyways FRPP is conservative, but still I'd say about 650 rwhp is about it for the C code 351w or the motorsport A351w.

JMHO and going completely off of memory.

Granted another 100 rwhp is probably at least another half second in ET at these power levels so that's pretty decent. Say the difference from a high 9 to a mid 10 in a typical car.

i see the same thing over and over!! ive seen s-trim cobras with 495rwhp run low 12s @ 115 while my buddies 04 cobra w/ 438rwhp runs a consistant 11.90@ 119 mph.......tq of the roots blower i guess to maintain the power. It sure seems like the mod's need a lot more help in areas of gear/tire to properly use the upper rpm power they create. just my opinion

Fox bodies are lighter and are better setup for drag racing. A lot of modular engines are being swapped into fox bodies these days. Check out modularfox.com for some ideas.

Nobody in northern cali has stepped up imo. with a nice 4v serious street strip car the one that we do are r&d on for cylinder heads and intake manifolds has gone 11.31 @ 120 with only 326 rwhp..Yeah the mod block is good from the factory but what happens when you toss a stock rods and have to replace your heads 32 valves 32 springs 32 seals and so on its not cheap ..I can regretfully say I will has 16-20000 in my motor when all said and done...Well if I didnt do all the work myself that is.. i kinda agree with you, but i think theres more to it than weight...dont 4.6 mustangs share the same chassis and stock style suspention as the fox body mustang...i think the 05 mustangs was the first year they went to a new design...maybe im wrong... [Confused]
