Have you ever thought that maybe its the scorpion rocker? Usually the head wont make a difference in whethere or not the rocker is noisy. Try some comp pro mags.

I had scorpion rockers and comp pro magnums. They were both loud. The more aggressive the cams ramp rates the more sewing machine noise you will hear. Mine sounded like a sewing machine, lol

Aluminum heads & longtube headers echo the noise. & XE camshaft profiles also make more noise.
I run 1.72 Scorpions on my Iron heads with an XE profile & they are quite loud. I can hear the valvetrain over my exhaust while driving.

3924's for NA with 10:1 compression or less. 3923's for Nitrous/Superchager/Turbo or NA with higher than 10:1 compression.

My opinion is that Scorpion rockers suck. A lot of the extra noise is from the sloppy trunions in them. Their along the lines of a pro form rocker or other low dollar option. Even when set to the proper preload they still make a racket at times. I've come to use certain brands rather than others so I don't run into that problem. Also I've gathered the impression that a lot of people stuff in pushrods that are known to be the right size based on what others have run. While many get away with proven sizes you will never beat getting yourself an adjustable pushrod and measuring them out yourself. This way you can set up the valve train to a more precise geometry.

HMM I run a XE 274 with pedistal mounts and they are not noisey at all. FMS 1.6. roller rockers. I have heard AFR cars with roller rockers(actualy have never heard a AFR car with out them LOL.)and some are very noisey. I personaly have never adjusted the valves on any of the AFR motors I have heard.

Great info. What RR's would you suggest running then? Crane? FMS?

I've never had a set of FMS rockers, or crane pro mag's make any noise for me. For that reason I tend to stick with them. I think when it boils down to it how you set up the valve train when you install it is one of the major factors.
