This year ranchero chassis and drive train is same as mustang, fairlane etc. Is the steering box a known problem in this suspension set up?

power or manual steering?

I know I hear alot of belly aching about the ram rod systems used on the power steering in those beasts.

I know I once switch hi and lo lines and liked to have ripped my arms off not to mention the suspension in my buddies 68

It's comming from a person that has owned a couple of classics and now refuses to ever drive one with the old stock type of steering and suspension. [Big Grin]

It all depends what you want to do sucka'.

Stock looking? You can reinforce your control arms by boxing them in cheap but effective.

Also get a flaming river steering box. If you plan on keeping it instead of going rack & pinion.

You can try and tighten the old box, but what do you want after almost 40yrs? Shit wears out- And technology improves.

Flaming River makes the replacement box plus a manual rack and pinion.

I'd rather spend it on steering and suspension than a stroked out 351 sucka.

Nothing like not having to deal with the bumpsteer and shitty weaving at highspeeds. It sucks ass.

The steering box probably is worn. You can try to adjust it with the adjusting screw but the best is probably replacement. I fought the falcon steering problems for years then went to the mustang II and have never looked back.

Oh yeah, another thing about the 351. It's a tight tight fit. I had one in my 64 ranchero with a T-10 and a 426-W in my 62 falcon. If I were you I'd look at a good set of AFR heads and FI rather than the hassle with the bigger block. A nice 331 kit might be less than an overhaul priced individually. Its in the HEADS!! A small block with a good set of heads has venom!
