A snap on scanner would be the best and I am fortunatly a snap on dealer. I also have a small otc code reader that is only a couple hundred bucks that I think everyone should have. The in dash light blinks to tell you the code number why would I spend money on something else? My books (92,93) only list 2 digit codes.
