I've used it on my 87 GT a few times and it works real good. Make sure the motor is hot, then let the intake vacume suck the top engine cleaner up an intake vacume port and drive the car hard for a little bit. If you are using the GM top engine cleaner in conjuntion with a tune up, remember to use the top engine cleaner before changing the spark plugs. By the way, the top engine cleaner causes a shit load of white stinky smoke to come out of the tail pipe, so don't use it in your driveway unless you want to piss off you next door nieghbor. I just tuned it up. Is there a chance that it will foul the sparkem plugs?

Yes, you do run the risk of fouling up the plugs when you use top engine cleaner.

Yeah, I've used the stuff too. Works great. Only problem is the huge clouds of smoke. It looks pretty funny driving down the road laying down a smoke screen.

are there any other things to use in lieu of it?
ie "carbon gets built up on the heads/valves" maybe doing this would kill the carbon?
Would carb cleaner work? I know kragen has that.

Mopar makes a combustion chamber cleaner, but I don't know if they sell it over the counter. My buddy works at a Mopar dealer, and gets it for free. Works good too.

BG (not Barry Grant) has a product called 44K fuel system cleaner. It's a professional use product (sold to ASE licensed mechanics only) but some dealerships carry it over the counter. It's expensive (about $25-30 a can). Just add it to a full tank of gas. It's not as concentrated as GM's but it works. It will clean your injectors, remove carbon off the intake and exhause valves. I think they have a website (BG stands for Bearings and Gears and have been in the automotive industry for over 25years). If you find out which dealsership carries this line, let me know.
